About the society
An international consortium dedicated to male contraception (International Consortium for Male Contraception = ICMC) was established 13 September 2013.
The association is registered at the Prefecture de Police, Paris under the number W751245598.
It is a network dedicated to all the medical and socio-cultural aspects of male contraception: current and future, hormonal and non-hormonal, medical and surgical. It is open to all those interested.
The aim is to create an international network focusing on male contraception, which has been sidelined until now in the modern contraceptive revolution, and then to actively promote this type of contraception.
ICMC would be very happy to welcome your colleagues and friends motivated by male contraception as members of this network.

Tribute to Prof. Eberhard Nieschlag
In Honor of Prof. Eberhard Nieschlag, a Giant in Andrology, Past President of the International Society of Andrology, Distinguished Andrologist of the American Society of Andrology, and founding member of the International Consortium for Male Contraception. Our dear friend and colleague, Doctor Eberhard Nieschlag, Emeritus Professor and Director of the Centre of Reproductive Medicine and Andrology, University of Münster, passed away on February 28, 2025.
Eberhard Nieschlag, whom we all call Ebo, was a major leader and, indeed, a Giant in our field of Endocrinology and Andrology who will be greatly missed. He taught Andrology to many of us and published more than 700 peer-reviewed papers and books. He was considered the “Father” of Male contraception, and he chaired the Male Task Force at WHO in the 1980s.
Ebo was a Member of the International Committee for Contraception Research (ICCR), where he advised the Population Council on the development of male contraception for two decades and became Emeritus member of the ICCR in 2011.
As an influential and successful leader, he founded the “Summit Meeting” devoted to research in male contraception where international researchers met yearly to present results and move the field forward. Together and with Dr. David Serfaty we later turned the Summit group into the International Consortium on Male Contraception (ICMC) where Ebo was a founding member and Vice President for Europe. Among his many achievements he was the President of the European Endocrine Society of which he became Emeritus Honorary President, he received numerous awards and medals including the title of Distinguished Andrologist and “Grand Master of testosterone” of the American Society of Andrology.
He was a great expert in classical music and very knowledgeable in Art, Painting, and History. We’ll all mourn our friend and miss his intelligence, drive, and good sense of humor. Here, we would like to pay tribute to Ebo and honor his wonderful and accomplished life in both science and art!
This Special issue of the Journal Contraception, reporting the proceedings of the 4th Congress of the ICMC will help us honor his legacy by moving the field forward.
